WHEN asked to name the metal capital of the world, it’s highly unlikely you’d say Gibraltar. Breed 77 want to change that.
March 14 sees the release of Zombie – a cover of The Cranberries classic hit, and the second single from Breed 77’s INSECTS album.
There will always be the die-hard Cranberries fans who will shun
this cover, but it has enough unique elements within it to make it
stand out on its own.
From Paul Isola’s gravelly, James Hetfield-esque vocals to Danny Felice’s Spanish guitar parts, the track takes on a contemporary, Latin persona, infused with metal.
The other element which separates Breed 77’s cover from the original is the addition of some poignant and relevant lyrics.
Front man Paul Isola said: “The lyrics remain largely unchanged, but
for a few words that make the subject matter a bit more contemporary –
the ignorance of the real casualties of war, both on a global scale and
the localised very personal affect on people.”
It’s easy to see this track being a live favourite, but for now it
looks at though only Germany are going to get to see it live, as the
band have not yet announced a UK tour for 2010.
This track is really easy to listen to and flies the flag for Gibraltarian metal.
