| Detroit Social Club's David Burn despairs as his umbrella gets stuck in a tree | | NEWCASTLE'S Detroit Social Club are due to release their Kiss The Sun EP on 01 March - but what can you expect from it?
Title track Kiss The Sun takes first place on the tracklist, and is a shining example of why these lads have been confirmed for an NME Awards show at London's Cargo.
Though the 1 minute 20 build up gets a tad tedious towards the end, you're not left disappointed when the track establishes itself. A distinct mix of electronica, indie and eastern-sounding influences, it launches into an almost monk-like choral outburst. Vocals and guitar continue to build to form a wholesome indie sound that lends itself to a live setting.
Black & White is second on the tracklist - and no it's not a Michael Jackson cover. The pace is taken right down and the lyrics become a bit more Oasis. Chants of "you are nothing without me" set the tone, whilst still seeming fairly relaxed.
Never Too Late To Try takes on a more anthemic persona, whilst remaining chilled and accessible - like a less droning version of Coldplay. Thousand Kings has an urban-meets-tribal edge to it, where guitar and bass meet rhythmic percussion. The lyrics appear to be taken right from the heart of their empire, announcing "we are strong", as though they are rallying the troops.
