No-Go Electro
Artist: Atomic Hooligans
Title: Electro Ain't Electro
Label: Botchit & Scarper Records
Atomic Hooligan's latest release
(As published for Backstage Pass, seatwave.com)
Following the DJ duo’s second album Sex Drugs And Blah Blah Blah, Atomic Hooligan’s Electro Ain’t Electro has a fairly solid framework for a hit single, but is hugely let down by extremely unimaginative and repetitive lyrics.
It’s a great shame, because the basic tune could easily rival the likes of current chart surfer Calvin Harris, and is a compliment to influences like the legendary Daft Punk. Clearly the skills of the UK-based DJs could pull in massive crowds, however the lyrics really are quite off-putting and as a result, they draw away from the talent that lies beneath.
All in all, let’s just say if “electro ain’t electro no more”, we’re probably better off without it.
