| Black Entertainment is due for release on 13/04/09 | | (As published for BangingDrum.com)
Hailing
from the Big Apple, rock/psychedelic outfit BM Linx bring their latest
offering to the floor. Entitled Black Entertainment, the band take
clearly take first impressions very seriously - the album takes you on
a mind-bending journey right from the offset. The three-piece list
influences that include Daft Punk, Nirvana and Kasabian, and it’s
certainly safe to say they do their forefathers proud.
Opening
with Valentine, there is an authentic electronic factor that would be
well suited to any club environment. The enticing rhythm is
complimented by synth and guitar, making for a really wholesome sound.
Though many tracks of such a length can lose you towards the end (it
lasts six minutes twenty-two seconds), BM Linx keep you hooked
throughout the whole track.
Continuing through the album, The
Outlaw Jimmy Rose takes BM Linx’s sound up there with the likes of the
Killers, taking on a much more intense rock resonance. There’s still
the synth element, but Tony Diodore’s vocals and guitar are what really
stands out here.
Kids On Fire wouldn’t sound completely out of
place on a Muse album – its bass-y undertones make it the perfect
accompaniment to Knights of Cydonia on a top quality playlist. With
7000+ plays on their MySpace page, it’s clear to see that fans are
already lapping this one up.
Track eight, 123CAT, is probably
one of the most delectable treats for your aural senses, as it makes
full use of stereo sound. Best listened to via your mp3 player if
you’re not able to hear it live, Kasabian are likely to wish they had
come up with this one first.
If BM Linx’s sound had to be
pigeon-holed, the best description is that it could well be the
lovechild of the Arctic Monkeys and the Killers, who has been brought
up listening to Daft Punk. It’s hard to say whether world is ready to
take on such musical genius, but one thing I do know – when they make
their way over to this side of the pond, I’ll be standing in the front
row.
Summary: For fans of Daft Punk, the Killers, Kasabian and
the Arctic Monkeys. This band is definitely set to hit the big time in
the not too distant future, and if you don’t want to be left behind I’d
recommend a listen or five pretty pronto.
Overall rating – 9/10
