Probably THE most interesting history book you'll ever read

If someone was to ask you where the rock capital of the UK was, it's highly unlikely that Bournemouth would be your first choice. Alan Burridge turns this viewpoint on it's head, with a top book detailing Bournemouth's music scene from 1960 right up until the 80s.

As the Dorset-born Fan Club Boss for Motorhead, and an avid gig-goer, Alan Burridge has the authority and experience to produce this comprehensive guide to the bands and venues that have held a place in the hearts of Dorset rock fans over the years.

Long before the BIC started drawing the likes of Oasis and Kasabian, Bournemouth was host to gigs from the likes of AC/DC, Motorhead, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Pink Floyd and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, to name but a few. Not only that, but some of the scene's top acts originated from Bournemouth, including
Zoot Money, Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and Andy Summers of The Police.

Where did these monsters of rock play? The venues range from Poole's Arts Centre and the Winter Gardens, to Poole Technical College to Le Disque A Go-Go Club.
Many of you won't recognise the venue names - the Winter Gardens has long been demolished and turned into a car park and the Bournemouth Royal Ballrooms has had many renovations, eventually becoming what we now know as the O2 Academy Bournemouth.

But don't let this put you off - this book holds a vibrant and detailed account of rock music in the local area spanning three decades, accompanied by various photos to bring back fond memories.
