Goldfinger give it their all
24/08/08 - Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth
Support: fiN., Buck Brothers

Punk rock group Goldfinger
FRESH from the Reading and Leeds Lock Up Stage, Goldfinger began the first leg of their tour in Portsmouth last night.

Whilst Buck Brothers and fiN. lent a hand warming up the crowd, guitarist Charlie Paulson made sure that this would be a gig to remember by asking members of the audience to name one song they wanted to hear Goldfinger play. A variety of requests under his belt, he returned to the rest of the band to discuss their bespoke setlist.

With the stage all set up and ready to go, epic music was played over the sound system (albeit skipping…) before a recorded intro of somebody placing an ad for a drummer. This was the cue for Darrin Pfeiffer to get on stage and perform a drum solo, shortly followed by bassist Kelly Lemieux, guitarist Charlie Paulson and vocalist John Feldmann.

Opening with Answers, it was clear to see that the crowd were in for a treat tonight. Following that, Feldmann took the opportunity to thank everyone for attending, identifying all the factors that were against them – what with it being a Sunday night, a bank holiday weekend, and the Reading and Leeds festivals still underway.

They then launched into Counting The Days, before chaos and confusion ensued as a result of Feldmann playing a setlist all of his own. Once the rest of his band caught on, they began a jam that led into Here In Your Bedroom.

Feldmann then asked the crowd if anybody had their first album, and invited all those that said yes to join them on stage as they played Mable. The crowd embraced the opportunity and even the security didn’t seem to mind this one-off breach of conduct.

Goldfinger finished with an encore of crowd favourite 99 Red Balloons, before marching off stage in military fashion.
