Spot of pop and potatoes
25/05/08 - The Portman, Boscombe

NEVER before have I been invited to a gig that serves free roast potatoes, but then Looking Through Glass are no ordinary band.

The indie quintet is local to the area, and comprises a husband and wife, a brother and two family friends.

Looking at the five-piece, you'd be forgiven for drawing upon similarities with Liverpool's The Zutons - Kellee Mein being Looking Through Glass's very own Abi Harding.

The band kicked off the evening with In Between The Routine, before moving on to a fantastic and unique cover of Marvin Gaye's I Heard It Through The Grapevine.

They then went on to perform crowd favourite Rosemary, prior to being invited for an encore of She's My Co-Pilot.

I personally feel that although superb to listen to in any environment, their music would sit nicely in an open-air/festival setting alongside the likes of The Thrills and The Coral, and judging from the reception they obtained on Sunday night, that vision may not be too far away from becoming a reality for the group.

Although at present unsigned, a Hastings-based record label has already stated its interest in the band and they regularly play at The Gander in Bournemouth.

Catch Looking Through Glass at their next gig taking place at Sixty Million Postcards on June 23.
