LOSING
a founding member can sometimes signal the end for a band, but American
indie group We Are Scientists proved they were still capable of a top
performance on Monday night.
Radio1 favourites Royworld were
support on the first few dates of the tour, but unfortunately
Southampton was granted a less than impressive performance from Oxford
Collapse, who were only saved by the appearance of We Are Scientists'
lead singer Keith Murray on two tracks in the middle of the set.
Thankfully
the sound crew improved the quality of the output in time for We Are
Scientists to begin their set, opening with Ghouls from their latest
album Brain Thrust Mastery.
They followed with the first single
from 2005 Nobody Move, No Body Get Hurt, which proved to be a massive
success with the audience, as their energy pulsed right through the
venue.
Though not the most charismatic band ever to grace the
Guildhall's stage, their solid performances of the likes of Lousy
Reputation and Callbacks more than made up for their dreary
conversations about the best kind of beer, and easily earned them the
somewhat odd rating of six out of seven that they awarded themselves
earlier in the evening.
